Pizza for breakfast @ Villa Paradiso

The Italian restaurant Villa Paradiso has been buzzing all year as supposedly the best pizza place in Oslo. According to’s readers Villa Paradiso DOES serve the best pizza in Oslo in 2012.

New visit in October 2012

I was hesitant, but my colleagues suggested this as a good place for us to go have a light meal before heading somewhere else nearby later. This time I had the ‘La Risacca’, and it was just as good as last time, only this time it was mine. I was sad to see it disappear. Italian bacon is my thing.

Price: 174 NOK.

Review below of previous visit from March 2012:

March 18th, 2012

Today I didn’t only enjoy a pleasant stroll in Oslo East, I also visited the Italian restaurant Villa Paradiso @ Grünerløkka and had pizza for breakfast. With olives!

Indiavolata pizza at Villa Paradiso Oslo Indiavolata 169,- on the website, 171,- iRL.
Tomato, fresh mozzarella, salame calabrese, olives, red onion, pecorino sardo and oregano.

La Risacca pizza at Villa Paradiso Oslo La Risacca 167,- on the website, 169,- IRL.
Tomato, fresh mozzarella, pancetta, gorgonzola, rocket and pine nuts

The menu

Villa Paradiso menu

About 10+ pizzas, and some other Italian dishes. There’s a lot of things I don’t eat (artichokes, mushrooms, parma, etc., so finding something I actually want is always tricky when I am looking at an Italian pizza menu). The pizzas are made with imported Italian ingredients.

The dish

Reading the list of ingredients raised my expectations. I love tomatoes, cheese, bacon, and most vegetable/nut-ish. The Indiavolata is topped with beautiful fresh olives, but I think the olives combined with the salami gave the pizza a salty taste.

La Risacca was my favorite out of the two (but it wasn’t mine to eat). All ingredients were fresh, and the crust was perfect (not too soft, not too crispy). The taste was average, but pine nuts on pizza is a nice touch I haven’t tried in this combination before.

Overall a nice meal, but average. The ingredients when combined seemed more tempting on paper than in my mouth. I might go again, but not for the pizzas. The feel of the place is positive and fun spirited and is a good setting for any kind of date.

The atmosphere

Small and trendy restaurant, just as trendy as the neighborhood (Grünerløkka).
