Koh Tao is a small island in Thailand, also known as the ‘Turtle Island‘. It is easy accessible by ferry from Koh Samui/Koh Phangan (2 hours/30 minutes travel).
The best time to visit… february – april. Can suffer from bad weather october – december.
The place is popular with young backpackers, and this island price level reflects this. The less developed Koh Tao has more characteristic and charm than neighbour island Koh Samui. It is also more budget friendly, but not when there is a full moon party at Koh Phangan. I am sorry I did not stay here longer than one day.
The beaches here are clearer than the ones in Koh Samui (which hardly has any clear beaches), and explains why it’s popular with divers. I won’t lie, I did not go scuba diving. In stead I enjoyed a long walk, and a delicious latte at a café next to the pier. Life was just more relaxing here than in Koh Samui.
If in Koh Tao you need to take a speed boat to the Koh Nang Yuan, a true paradise if you appreciate clear waters!

Funny sign. I hate it when people litter and I find a floating cigarette butt headed towards me in the ocean..
