Visited in December, 2010
Amsterdam is a colorful and lively city in Europe. Most known for its relaxed relationship to cannabis, but from 2011 the law has become stricter. The locals have a relaxed relationship to tourists, but will likely run you over with their bicycles if you don’t watch out.
The streets of Amsterdam looked the same to me with canals, bridges, and tall old buildings in bright colors. Beautiful. It is difficult to know where you are at any time, and if you go the wrong way you have a long way back as this is not a city one can walk diagonally in. Not for horses or high-heeled shoes. It was the perfect ambience in December. Dark evenings, fresh air, and aluminated lighting. Romantic!
Does one travel to Amsterdam without visiting a coffee shop? I visited the Bulldog, but it was absolutely terrible. Smoke-filled room that literally stank us out in two seconds. There is a guard outside the door, but we did not really understand the point with him when not noone was denied access.
Things to do in Amsterdam
Amsterdam is home to several boutique hotels, and you can even sleep on a boat!
